The top doctor for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph is clamping down on her jurisdiction.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Nicola Mercer, issued Section 22 orders on Thursday under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

It will require Old Order Mennonite churches and schools to close for the foreseeable future.

Dr. Mercer said the goal is to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in those communities, after a recent rise in cases and two known outbreaks.

A release from WDG Public Health said it cannot conduct contact tracing in those settings because, "This information is not being provided."

Dr. Mercer is quoted directly, and stated she was saddened she had to take this step but, "Sometimes we need to make difficult decisions to prevent the unchecked spread of this virus."
