Regional Police say a 64-year old man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in Waterloo.

The crash happened around 5:45 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of University Avenue East and Auburn Drive.

Police say a Nissan was headed northbound on Auburn, and tried turning left onto University, only to strike the pedestrian walking across University.

The pedestrian's injuries are considered non-life threatening, while the driver of the vehicle was not hurt.

The roadway was closed for several hours, but is back open to traffic.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
