The organizer of the Hugs Over Masks rally happening this Sunday is now speaking out.

Vlad Sobolev tells Kitchener Today with Brian Bourke on 570 NEWS the government is using the pandemic to distract people from other issues.

He says the government's mandatory mask by-law can lead to human trafficking.

"We discussed also with the masking, it's actually gonna increase the likelihood of people being kidnapped, etc. Because when you're in public and you're wearing a mask, you cannot see people in distress, especially children. So there's a lot of correlation that happens between mandatory masks, and the human trafficking aspect of the situation."

Sobolev says the government has implented anti-COVID measures to distract from real issues.

"The vulnerable population, the elderly population is the one that's actually been affected [by the pandemic]. Now at the same time, as a child, you have zero chances of dying with COVID, and you have 66 chances of being kidnapped."

There are no studies to verify Sobolev's claims regarding the corrolation between wearing masks and human trafficking.

Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic and Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang have both denounced the anti-mask rally happening on Sunday at Victoria Park.
