Francesco Pinelli is an LA King.

The Kitchener Rangers forward was selected in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft (42nd overall) by Los Angeles Saturday.

Pinelli played last season in Slovenia amid the OHL shutdown.

He had 41 points in 59 games in his rookie season with the Rangers in 2019-20.

Meantime, recently signed defenseman Roman Schmidt was picked by the Tampa Bay Lightning 96th overall to finish the third round.

Three picks before him, the New York Islanders took Saginaw Spirit goalie and Cambridge native Tristan Lennox.

Into the fourth round, the NHL's newest team from Seattle grabbed Ville Ottavainen 99th overall.

The Rangers import played overseas last season.

Justin Ertel of Kitchener heard his name called in the third round by the Dallas Stars, while Cambridge native Chandler Romeo was taken in the seventh round by Ottawa.
