Stratford Jail is closing up for at least 14 days, after it was hit with a COVID-19 outbreak.
The Solicitor General's office told 570 NEWS there are nine inmates associated with this outbreak, and the closure will allow staff to self-isolate to reduce transmission of the virus.
About 30 inmates are being transferred to other facilities that have the space and ability to isolate "under droplet precautions" separately from the jail's general population.
"All appropriate COVID-19 related protocols are in place at the receiving facilities, and the inmates from the Stratford Jail who are COVID-19 positive will be isolated from the rest of the inmate population under droplet precautions while they receive appropriate medical care," the Solicitor General's office said.
The ministry is also working with Huron Perth Public Health to complete contact tracing.
