The University of Guelph is out with a statement regarding a large gathering of over 500 people on campus over the weekend.

The school said campus police responded immediately and are still investigating the situation.

It also confirms that tickets have been issued as a result, and security camera footage is being reviewed.

"Our Campus Safety Office responded immediately with the priority being to maintain public safety," read the statement. "Tickets have been issued in relation to the gathering. However, we are still investigating the situation, including reviewing the security camera footage. The University condemns the behaviour that resulted in minor damage to the exterior of one of our residence buildings. The actions that led to this damage are inconsistent with the values of the University and the vast majority of our students. If U of G students are involved, we will enforce the University's Non-Academic Student Code of Conduct."

"The University is being proactive in ensuring a safe campus. We have additional security guards and residence staff in place. Our Campus Safety Office has extra officers on patrol, as well as paid duty officers from Guelph Police. Security footage is being monitored by our Campus Safety Office. We are also enforcing strict protocols in our residences including no visitors. Anyone with information about the gathering is asked to contact our Campus Safety Office or Crimestoppers."
