Crews were on scene for nearly 10 hours after a large garbage fire broke out at a waste management building in Mount Forest.

It happened Monday around 5 p.m.

"The Mount Forest station received a call about a confirmed structure fire at 226 Industrial Avenue. When firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke visible inside of the building," said Wellington North Fire Chief Dave Guilbault.

Garbage inside the building had caught fire - including household waste, furniture, mattresses, and plastics.

"That caused a lot of difficulties for the firefighters to extinguish the fire. The pile was over 65-feet high, and over 100 feet wide."

Guilbault said OPP and 44 firefighters attended the scene, and officials didn't clear the scene until Tuesday around 2 a.m.

No one was injured, and damage to the building is estimated at $100,000.

Guilbault added there was no threat or damage to the environment as a result of the blaze.
