Waterloo Regional Police have made an arrest stemming from an investigation into the distribution of child pornography.

On December 8, 2020, police say they were contacted by the victim's parents, who let officers know they had discovered intimate images and videos of their child had been allegedly distributed on the internet.

Police then issued search warrants for the victim's cellphone and the male subject's cellphone.

This past Friday, police charged a 20-year-old Waterloo man.

The accused is charged with unauthorized use of a computer, publication of an intimate image without consent, distribution of child pornography, extortion and uttering threats.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Police also say the accused is known to the victim, with the alleged offences taking place between January 2018 and December 2020.
