Police wrap up commercial vehicle safety blitz in Kitchener

On Tuesday, June 11, 2019, and Wednesday, June 12, 2019, the Waterloo Regional Police Service, along with several other provincial partnering police services, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Ministry of the Environment, took part in a joint forces initiative targeting Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety. 

The two-day-initiative saw Commercial Motor Vehicles brought into the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium for Level 1 CVSA Inspections. 

The two-day initiative produced the following results: Over 4500KG: 87 Inspections, 24 Out of Service, 27% Out of Service Rate; 74 Highway Traffic Act charges; 19 Environmental Act Charges; 1 set of plates removed. 

Under 4500KG: 30 Inspections, 17 out of service, 57% out of service rate; 49 Highway Traffic Act charges; 1 set of plates removed. 

The most common defects that were found included defective brakes, improper tires, insecure loads, overweight vehicles, and paperwork violations. This is part of the ongoing efforts to ensure road safety in Waterloo Region.
