Score one for the Guelph Storm in their Highway 7 rivalry for 2019-20.
The Storm took it to the Kitchener Rangers, getting a four point effort from captain Cam Hillis, to tackle the Blueshirts 6-3 at The Aud Friday night.
Hillis scored twice, as did Daniil Chayka for the Storm.
On the other side of the ice, Jonathan Yantsis had himself a two-goal game, while Reid Valade added the other for the home side.
Riley Damiani and Liam Hawel had two assists each in the loss.
Yantsis opened the scoring late in the first, before Hillis replied before the period was over.
In the second, Guelph scored three goals in a span of just over four minutes to essentially seal the deal.
However with the score 4-2 and Lucas Pfeil on the bench, Valade brought the game to within one with just over two minutes left.
Less than 20 seconds later, Josh Wainman skymailed a puck from his own end into a yawning cage.
Pfeil made 36 saves in the loss, while Nico Daws nabbed 34 stops in the win.
It was Kitchener's annual Remembrance Day game, wearing jerseys to acknowledge the Canadian Army Medical Corps.
Kitchener travels to Oshawa Sunday evening.
