Waterloo Region well represented in Tokyo

See a list of athletes from Waterloo Region who are competing at the Tokyo Olympics below

With the Tokyo Olympics beginning Friday morning, the over 370 Canadian athletes will be in the spotlight in their chase for gold.

Among them will be a number of athletes that have ties to Waterloo Region:

  • Kitchener's Mandy Bujold - women's boxing
  • Kitchener's Sarah Pavan - beach volleyball
  • Kitchener's Jakub Buczek - rowing (now lives in Victoria, B.C.)
  • Kitchener's Peter Disera - cycling mountain bike (now lives in Horseshoe Valley, Ont.)
  • Kitchener's Shelina Zadorsky - women's soccer (now lives in London, Ont.)
  • Waterloo's Hamoon Derafshipour - karate (competing for Team Refugee)
  • Cambridge's Brooklyn Moors - artistic gymnastics
  • Cambridge's Carling Zeeman - rowing (now lives in Victoria, B.C.)

The opening ceremony will be held in Tokyo on Friday at 7:00 a.m. ET (8:00 p.m. Tokyo time).
