17 Novice athletes from KW Synchronized Swimming Club competed at the first competition of the season. The Trillium West Region Artistic Swimming Championships, held at Brantford’s Wayne Gretzky Sports Complex, is a mandatory competition for Novice, Masters and AWD athletes.

Athletes age 12 and under competed in both individual figures and team routine, while athletes age 13 and over competed in team routine. Figures are stationary elements which are performed in front of a panel of judges. Figures demonstrate technical ability of the sport as well as strength, speed, height, and accuracy of position. The 11-12 team swam their routine to The Greatest Showman earning top honors as they took home the gold medal, while the 13-15 team swam a Bollywood style routine earning a silver medal at the event.

KW Synchronized Swimming Club, one of the smaller clubs in the Western Ontario Region, has grown over the past 2 years, particularly in the Novice and Recreational programs. KW Synchro also has a strong Masters programs for adult athletes. KW Synchro is led by Head Coach John Ortiz along with Novice team coaches Brittany Elford and Haley Grendel.

Parents interested in enrolling their children in beginner level artistic swimming are encouraged to look at our Spring Recreational program with classes running through April and May or our Aqua Gym Summer Camp in collaboration with KW Gymnastics club. The camp will combine artistic swimming skills and gymnastics training.
