Laurier men claim OUA curling championship

The men's curling team from Wilfrid Laurier University took the OUA's top prize Monday, while the women's side took bronze as both head to the national championship next month

The Golden Hawks struck gold on the pebbled ice in Guelph on Monday.

The men's curling team from Laurier won their fourth OUA Championship in six years after beating Brock 7-3 in the finals.

It was an overall dominant weekend for the side led by Kitchener's Matt Hall, out scoring the competition 77-25 through the 10 games played over the weekend.

Meantime, the women's team had reason to celebrate too, beating the host Guelph Gryphons 8-1 in five ends to capture bronze.

It's their fifth OUA medal in the last seven years.

Both sides qualify for the U Sports/Curling Canada Championships in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba from March 11-15.
