There will be plenty of Waterloo Wildfire Ringette representation at the 2019 World Ringette Championships in British Columbia.

Five junior players: Maddie MacLean, Meghan Hanton-Fong, Lydia Duncan, Emily Power and Laura Soper were all named to the Canadian Junior National Ringette Team.

"I couldn't imagine a better way to represent Canada, playing the sport that I love! It is a huge honour and I am very grateful for this opportunity," said MacLean, who's from St. Jacob's.

"Representing Team Canada has always been my dream as a little girl and the fact that this is now a reality is incredible," added Hanton-Fong, who is a resident of Waterloo.

Meantime, Erin Markle, Erika Kiviaho and Christianne Varty were all selected to play on the senior team, which is for athletes over the age of 21.

The tournament runs from November 26 to December 1.

The senior team lost their first game 10-8 to Team Finland on Tuesday.

The junior squad plays Finland in their opening game of the tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
