Acheampong, Ternowski among names taken in CFL Draft

Laurier DL Sam Acheampong was taken by Toronto, while Waterloo WR Tyler Ternowski was selected by his hometown Ti-Cats

A big night for some football standouts at Laurier and Waterloo.

In all, three Golden Hawks and three Warriors were taken in the 2020 CFL Draft Thursday night.

Veteran Golden Hawks defensive tackle Sam Acheampong went to the Toronto Argos with their second round selection (20th overall; territorial pick).

Moving ahead seven picks, and with the 27th overall selection, the Hamilton Tiger Cats took Hamilton native and Warriors standout receiver Tyler Ternowski.

We didn't have to wait long for more Warrior content, as linebacker Kurtis Gray was picked up 31st overall by Calgary.

Warrior running back Dion Pellerin went in the fifth round to the Argos.

The Ottawa Redblacks then turned to Laurier for their sixth round selection, taking linebacker Brad Cowan.

Fellow Golden Hawks linebacker Tanner Cadwallader went to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Round seven.
