WRPS officer facing impaired driving charge

Police were alerted to a vehicle being driven erratically in Paris

A 17-year-member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service is facing an impaired driving charge.

The charge was laid by Brant County OPP.

They said they responded to the area of Grand River Street North in Paris on December 23 after receiving a report of a vehicle driving erratically.

Sergeant Jason Bonikowsky has been charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

Bonikowsky is due to appear in a Brantford court on January 17.

WRPS' Professional Standards Unit will be conducting a review of the circumstances as well.

As the matter is now before the court, Regional Police will not be releasing any further information in regards to this incident.
