NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF KITCHENER
*************************
Due to the extreme cold weather alert issued for tomorrow, the Winter Bike to Work Day event has been postponed to Friday Feb. 21.

Riding your bike in the winter isn't an all or nothing proposition. There are plenty of clear, sunny days that are comfortable to ride a bike. But there are a handful of days throughout the year where cycling may be unsafe due to weather conditions, including extreme cold weather days like tomorrow. When that happens, we encourage residents to use alternatives like taking transit, carpooling or driving.

Join Kitchener residents and City staff for a casual, 2km bike ride on the new separated bike lanes on Belmont Avenue. Free coffee, hot chocolate and donuts will be available for participants at the end of the ride on the Filsinger Trail. Staff will be available for comment about the separated bike lane pilot and the recently completed work on the nearby Iron Horse Trail. This event will be used to announce the launch of the bike lane pilot survey.

What:      Winter Bike to Work Day

When:     Friday, Feb. 21

Time:      7:30 a.m.

Where:    Ride starts at Arabella Park, 740 Belmont Ave W, Kitchener.

Post-ride refreshments and community engagement at Filsinger Trail at Belmont Avenue.

Who:       City of Kitchener transportation staff and members of the local cycling community.
