A $22 million recreation complex could soon be a reality for Wellesley Township.

The complex is going to contain an NHL regulation sized rink, walking track, fitness gym and skateboard park among many other amenities.

Town council unanimously approved to apply for federal/provincial funding earlier this week, all to help build the facility.

Wellesley Mayor Joe Nowak tells the Mike Farwell Show on 570 NEWS the application for the funding is going in Friday.

"The deadline is next Tuesday. We're hopeful for it. Our MPP Mike Harris has been working very hard on this for us. We'll just keep our fingers crossed. We won't know definitely if we got the funding until January or February of next year."

Nowak said should it come to fruition, it's going to take some time for it be built.

"By the time you put the plans in place and get the designs built and go through all the paperwork that you have to do, we'd probably look at a year-and-a-half to two years before it's up and functional."
