Just like the Mustangs’ 45-42 victory over Waterloo on Saturday, the race for first place in the latest national rankings was as close as it gets.

Western (7-0) and the Montreal Carabins (6-0) each received seven first-place votes from the Football Reporters of Canada panel but the Mustangs ended up with 409 total points compared to 399 for the RSEQ conference leaders, who remain at No. 2 for the fourth consecutive week.

Montreal edged Western 203 to 199 in the media voting, while the Mustangs had a 210-196 advantage in the statistical calculation from the ELO Rating System.

Meanwhile, the Saskatchewan Huskies (4-2 / 299 points) were the biggest winners in the seventh poll of the campaign, moving up three spots to No. 4.

Rounding out the new top 10 are the No. 3 Laval Rouge et Or (4-1 / 367 points / no change), No. 5 Guelph Gryphons (4-2 / 275 / no change), No. 6 Calgary Dinos (5-1 / 273 / up two positions), No. 7 McMaster Marauders (5-1 / 271 / down three), No. 8 Acadia Axemen (5-0 / 244 / down two), No. 9 Ottawa Gee-Gees (4-2 / 174 / unranked last week) and No. 10 Waterloo Warriors (4-2 / 171 / no change).
