You can help support the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington this fall, just by organizing a fun night with family and friends.
It's all a part of their Coffee Break fundraiser event, which is going virtual this year.
Director of Fund Development, Lorri McDermott-Holmes, says they have decided to rebrand the Coffee Break fundraiser for this year because of the pandemic.
"We took a look at what was happening in the world these days and what people's needs are and thought it was a good chance for us to update that iconic program. So now we have launched a rebranding of our Coffee Break and it is now called Social with a Purpose. We decided to launch it in September because September is World Alzheimer Month."
She says there are a variety of fun activities for all.
"We have virtual social recreation like online jeopardy and afternoon tea parties and online exercise classes. We have online peer support groups and education classes and counselling by phone and over video. We continue to serve our clients and we are busy, busy, busy."
McDermott-Holmes says to take part, you can use one of their kits to organize a fun social night with people you love.
"Such as a collage night, a date night, a paint night, sing-along, cooking or baking class that you do virtually. Really the sky is the limit. Maybe you're already doing something weekly like a weekly card game online or a book club discussion. Why not turn it into a fundraiser and support the over 20,000 people in our community who live with dementia everyday."
