Three townships in Waterloo Region are getting over $1.8 million in infrastructure funding from the Ford government.

The funding comes from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund and can be used on projects such as road repairs, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure.

Wilmot Township received over $728,000 - Over $630,000 went to Woolwich Township and Wellesley Township is getting almost $519,000.

"This significant infrastructure investment will create jobs, attract economic growth and investment, and keep our rural communities safe," Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Mike Harris said in a release. "I will continue to work closely with local municipalities to deliver on shared priorities that have a positive impact on residents here in Waterloo Region."

The province is providing approximately $200 million to over 400 communities, to help address their core infrastructure projects and asset management planning needs for 2020.
