It's a trophy that goes on an extensive summer tour.

And that tour will stop in New Hamburg on Thursday, as Washington Capitals video coach and New Hamburg Minor Hockey alumni, Brett Leonhardt gets his day with the Stanley Cup.

The Cup will be on display at the New Hamburg Community Centre from 9 until 11 a.m.

"Everyone who has ever laced up skates dreams of someday winning the Stanley Cup." said Leonhardt.

"For me bringing it back to where it all started is a big part of that dream and I am excited to share the Cup with the people of Wilmot and surrounding area."

Leonhardt played his minor hockey in New Hamburg before moving on to play AAA and junior hockey in Cambridge and Kitchener.

You are being asked to bring a donation for the Wilmot Family Resource Centre Food Bank.

The public will also have an opportunity to enter a draw to win a signed Alex Ovechkin Washington Capitals jersey. Proceeds will go to the New Hamburg Minor Hockey.

Washington defeated Vegas in five games to win their first championship.

Local players who have brought the Stanley Cup to Waterloo Region include Tanner Pearson, Kyle Clifford, Scott Stevens and Kirk Maltby.
