Premier Ford celebrates RAV4 production launch in Cambridge

Ford was joined by local MPPs and the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade

The Ontario Premier made a stop in Cambridge on Friday afternoon.

Doug Ford toured the Toyota Plant, which employs around 9,000 people.

"Ontario has the best autoworkers you will find anywhere in the entire world," said Ford.

Ford was also there to celebrate the production launch of the new RAV4.

"Cambridge will be the site for the production of the new RAV4. While today is a great day for the autoworkers in Cambridge, it is also a very very difficult day for their counterparts in Windsor."

It was announced this week that Fiat Chrysler is laying off around 1,500 workers at its plant in Windsor.

"First and foremost, I have a message for every worker affected in Windsor - I share your disappointment, but I also share your resolve. No matter what happens next, our government will always stand behind you and fight for you," said Ford.

The Premier also 'guaranteed' his government is moving forward and creating "an environment to create jobs."

Ford says they're doing this by slashing red tape and regulations, lowering taxes, and making sure Ontario is competitive in the auto sector, and in the world.

"There has never been a better time to create great paying jobs. I always say 'Ontario is open for jobs, and open for business’ - and we will always stand with the Ontario workers."
