Waterloo Regional Police are looking for a driver who allegedly took off from a crash scene in Kitchener.

A car slammed into a pole at King Street and River Road on Thursday morning.

Police say they were in the area conducting distracted driving enforcement at the time.

A witness, working in the area, also told 570 NEWS the driver fled the area after the crash.

"We were setting up our stand here at King and River for fireworks sales, and we had our backs turned to the road -  next thing we heard was a big bang. We turned around, and there was a car that smashed into a light pole. We saw the guy get out and grab a bag, and then he ran away." said Shawn Miller.

WRPS say the suspect is described as a male with a thin build, and is between 5'6'' and 5'7'' in height.
