Regional Police say an incident reported about a woman in a van approaching children in Ayr was all a misunderstanding.

Police were called after a suspicious vehicle being driven by a woman reportedly stopped at the roadside in the area of Nith River Way and Broom Street and tried to start a conversation with a group of students Wednesday around 3:30 p.m.

Officers found the van the next day and spoke to the driver, who said she was in the area picking up her child from school, and was slowing down in the area because she was looking for homes up for sale.

There are no safety concerns in connection to this incident.

Police are reminding parents to have regular conversations with their children about being safe when going to and from school.
