A GoFundMe campaign has been set up in support of the O:se Kenhionhata:tie Land Back Camp.
The organizer of the campaign, Shawn Johnston said on the page that they are raising funds to gather in order to celebrate, learn, and thrive in their cultures. They said they represent several nations living under the peace of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum, and the Two Row Wampum. Organizers of Land Back Camp are working with the Grand River Conservation Authority to gather at Laurel Creek Conservation Area in Waterloo. They are asking the general public to avoid entering the space out of respect for the space and those gathered on it.
Johnston adds to the page that the funds raised will allow them to continue important work that profoundly benefits and enriches the community. They said they have been grateful for the support of the community in providing funds, food, firewood, ice, supplies, medicines, trees, time, and presence at rallies.
They go on to say the donations grant the ability to safely and properly host and provide honorariums to elders, knowledge keepers, and program facilitators. They said if there is a circumstance where no person, government, or institution offers to return land, they will allocate funds raised toward purchasing territory back.
The GoFundMe campaign was launched June 2 with a goal of raising $10,000 and can be found here.
