October 1st is National Seniors Day, a day to celebrate older adults across Canada for their contributions to society.
CEO of CanAge, Laura Tamblyn Watts, says this Seniors Day is a little different because of the pandemic.
"Given COVID-19, it's also an important day to pause and reflect and think about how we can do things better for our older people."
She says it's also important to have this day to dismantle myths about seniors.
"Even given all these contributions, we know that ageism is the most prevalent form of discrimination in the world, according to the World Health Organization."
Tamblyn Watts says they will be celebrating Seniors Day with an online event with experts from across the country.
"Talking about issues of elder abuse, talking about health, long-term care, social inclusion and ageism. People can sign up at canage.ca/voices."
