Thousands of people all over Waterloo Region will be taking a sip of their favourite alcoholic beverage in just a few days as they begin the final count down to 2019.
CEO of Hill Street Beverage,Terry Donnelly tells Kitchener Today with Brian Bourke on 570 NEWS that those who are looking for non-alcoholic alternatives to drinking beer and wine do have options.
He says alcohol-free wine and beer is the fastest growing beverage category in the world right now.
"It's actually grown about 87 per cent higher in the UK. The world's biggest beverage companies project their global revenues from alcohol-free beer will be close to 20 per cent of their total global revenue by 2025."
He says alcohol free wine and beer is a great alternative for people who need to stay sober.
"People that want to join the party but don't want to explain why they're on some kind of medication, but they still like a nice, cold beer. So this is a great way for people who are concerned about their health or have health issues to feel like they fit right in with everyone else, without having to worry about the impact that mixing medication and alcohol will have on their body."
He says that local restaurants should strongly consider including a larger variety of alcohol-free beer and wine on their menu.
"I've never seen a non-alcoholic wine on the menu at any restaurant in Canada, but they are standard-fare, anytime you travel through Europe. You'll see two or three different selections of alcohol-free wine, and possibly half a dozen different selections of alcohol and beer."
