Local student in running for $100,000 scholarship

Meena Waseem of Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute in Kitchener could get a big boost in paying for her post-secondary education.

She is among the top candidates in the running to win a Loran Award.

The value of the the scholarship is $100,000 over four years for undergraduate studies. 

National selections will take place February 1-2 in Toronto.

The award is based on evidence of character, commitment to service in the community and leadership potential.

The Loran Scholars Foundation will grant 34 Loran Awards following the national selections.

Even if she doesn't win an award, Waseem is still eligible to receive a $5,000 as a finalist.
