Local politicians say that Waterloo Region was not adequately addressed in the provincial government's 2019 budget.

NDP Waterloo MPP Catherine Fife says the new budget takes away from children, students and everyone counting on social services to protect them.

"Ford’s starving our hospitals and schools of the funding that they desperately need and cutting $1 billion from children and social services. This makes it even more difficult for families to access the developmental services and social assistance that they need. Ford’s even threatening to withhold as much as 60 per cent of the funding for our colleges and universities. But on top of that, the budget left out funding to deliver two-way all-day GO."

NDP Kitchener MPP Laura Mae Lindo says the budget is focused on the wrong priorities.

"Without two-way, all-day GO, business and economic development is being choked. Commuters are spending hours away from their families. People are missing out on important opportunities. Kitchener-Waterloo families deserve so much better than Doug Ford’s budget."

Earlier this week, Lindo's motion to the legislature, calling for firm funding and a plan to deliver two-way all-day GO to Waterloo Region was voted "no."
