Laurier women's basketball team competing in NCAA Division 1 tournament

It has been a decade since the Golden Hawks have qualified for the Division 1 competition

Today the Laurier Golden Hawks women's basketball team are facing Oakland University in Toronto in the NCAA Division 1 tournament.

This will be the first time since 2009 that the Golden Hawks will be playing in the Division 1 competition. 

The Golden Hawks are set to play the Oakland Grizzly Bears at 1p.m. at Humber College.

"Playing a team like Oakland will give us a chance to get an early evaluation of our personnel, while competing against a quality opponent." said Head Coach Paul Falco on the matchup.

"I anticipate they will be an up-tempo team and this is a good opportunity to play an out of country team that we are unfamiliar with, in preparation for the 2019-2020 season."

Last year, the Golden Hawks finished sixth in the OUA West Division with a 9-15 record before losing in the opening round of the playoffs to the Windsor Lancers.
