If you are looking for a way to help some local furry friends you may want to whip out your apron and start baking.

With National Cupcake Day just around the corner on February 25, humane societies from across the province will be getting some much needed support.

The annual event is a unique opportunity for people to be able to give back. In advance of the big day, animal lovers are encouraged to bake cupcakes with funds raised going to their local humane society.

Last year the campaign saw a total of $700,000 raised in Canada. This year, the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society has set a goal of $40,000. That amount would be more than 1300 days of pet care.

If cupcakes aren't for you though, you are still able to bake other baked goods.

This will be the sixth annual year for the campaign.
