The City of Waterloo is mourning the passing of former Mayor Brian Turnbull.
He was first elected a councillor in 1972, then was a three-term mayor, from 1988 to 1997.
"A three-term mayor, he left an indelible mark on our city. Our community has been enriched by his visionary leadership." Mayor Dave Jaworsky, said in a statement Friday afternoon, offering his condolences to Turnbull's family and friends.
Jaworsky says Turnbull established the city's environment first policy and the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex, which opened in 1993.
"Brian was known as someone who treated everyone with respect with the ability to remain calm under pressure. He was also a successful businessman, having founded several companies." he added.
Brian and his wife Eleni had three children, Johanna, Jessica and Andrew.
No funeral arrangements have been announced yet.
