Public health has confirmed a food processing workplace in Waterloo Region is currently going through its second COVID-19 outbreak.

Listed as "food processing 1" on the Region of Waterloo Public Health COVID-19 dashboard, there have been 88 cases attributed to the active outbreak at the workplace.

"There are 88 cases in total of which 77 are now resolved," said a spokesperson for the Region of Waterloo. "Of the 88, 34 have been assessed to be community-acquired and 54 have an acquisition source that is unknown and some could have been the workplace."

Public health says it is working closely with the workplace, adding that the company has "made significant efforts to help decrease spread amongst employees outside the workplace."

The health service has stated that disclosing the name of the facility is not required, because public health has been able to identify all high-risk contacts to-date.

In recent days, 570 NEWS has received a number of tips stating the outbreak is at Conestoga Meat Packers in Breslau.

When asked for comment on the reported outbreak, Conestoga Meats said via email, "Please contact Region of Waterloo Public Health for any questions regarding COVID-19."

Case numbers are up to date as of 1:30 p.m. January 13.
