Local charities are hoping residents are still in a spending mood.
December 3, 2019 marks Giving Tuesday.
It's a global movement for giving and volunteering, which started seven years ago, falling on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
In Waterloo Region, an anonymous donor is giving an extra boost to the United Way.
Every dollar United Way Waterloo Region Communities receives on Tuesday will be matched dollar for dollar and will go to its "Addressing Addiction Fund".
The fund was established last year to help frontline organizations providing support and programs to those in the region struggling with addiction.
"So we are really trying to pull and push to get help for folks that need the help and support. It can make all the difference." United Way CEO, Joan Fisk told Kitchener Today with Brian Bourke on 570 NEWS.
Fisk says addictions don't just impact the individual, it also impacts their family, "We're really trying to do some therapeutic conversations ... harm reduction work and eventually referrals on to housing support, mental health support. All that kind of stuff that actually happens when your world can fall apart,"
Some of the other local charities taking part in Giving Tuesday include the Grand River Hospital, the Humane Society, YMCAs and The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
