If you’re planning to have a cool fruit smoothie this Saturday afternoon, be sure to check the brand on any frozen mangoes that may be added to the mix – as the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall for various frozen mangoes due to possible Hepatitis A contamination.

That recall spans across Ontario and various provinces, with the potential to be national – as Nature’s Touch Frozen Food warns that consumers shouldn't eat the following products with an expiry date of “best before November 2022”:

  • Nature’s Touch Frozen Mangoes (2kg)
  • Compliments Mango Mania (600g)
  • Irresistibles Mango Chunks (600g)
  • President’s Choice Mango Chunks (600g)

According to the health agency, that recall was triggered after an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The agency is now conducting a “food safety investigation,” which they said could lead to the recall of other products.

The agency also warns that food contaminated with Hepatitis A may not look or smell spoiled – as they caution that anyone who believes they’ve fallen ill after consuming a recalled product should immediately contact their doctor.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency also cautioned that the illness associated with the recall is “usually mild,” beginning anywhere from 15 to 50 days after the contaminated food is eaten – generally going away on its own after “a week or two.” They add, however, that illness can last up to six months in some individuals, causing inflammation of the liver along with symptoms of low appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches and more.
