Average monthly rents increase again: report

But Kitchener is still among the most affordable cities in the province for renters

The average monthly rental rate in Canada was up for a second straight month.

According to the National Rent Report by Rentals.ca and Bullpen Research & Consulting, the average monthly rental rate increased 1.9 per cent in June following a four per cent spike in May.

Kitchener finished 20th of the 33 Canadian cities for average monthly rent.

The average cost to rent a one-bedroom apartment in the city is just over $1,200, with the average for a two-bedroom at over $1,400.

But the city is still among the most affordable in the province for renters.

The report put Kitchener 12th out of 16 Ontario cities in terms of affordability.

Toronto has the priciest monthly average rent, with the average cost for a one-bedroom at close to $2,300.
