We are finally hearing from the four-time Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Conestoga.

Harold Albrecht posted a statement to his personal Facebook page on Wednesday evening.

"Reflecting on the range of emotions over the past 24 hours since the official Elections Canada results were announced, there is one overriding feeling that rises to the top, - Gratitude! Yes there is a deep sense of disappointment and loss, no question!" he said.

Reflecting on his almost 14 years as an MP, he said he has so much for which to be thankful.

"Having had the honour of serving thousands of constituents in dealing with the federal government on issues ranging from Employment Insurance, Canada Revenue Agency, Immigration, Refugee Settlement, Passports, and much more — has been a huge source of satisfaction! Hearing from many of you how our office helped out in a crisis, is one of the greatest joys of my job!"

Liberal Tim Louis defeated Albrecht by just over 350 votes in Monday's federal election.

Due to an issue with special ballots, Louis was only declared the winner at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

But looking back on almost 14 years (January 2006) as MP for Kitchener-Conestoga, I have so much for which to be thankful! Having had the honour of serving thousands of constituents in dealing with the federal government on issues ranging from Employment Insurance, Canada Revenue Agency, Immigration, Refugee Settlement, Passports, and much more — has been a huge source of satisfaction! Hearing from many of you how our office helped out in a crisis, is one of the greatest joys of my job!

My dedicated staff have invested hours of office time and in emergency settings, after hours to ensure that your needs were addressed! A HUGE thank you to Linda, Andrew, Stephanie, Dan, Helene and Norma!!

I am also immensely grateful to have worked with a great team of colleagues in my Conservative Caucus! We worked together on many issues to make the lives of all Canadians better! Working under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper for almost 10 years was an honour that I will cherish for life, and the last two years working under Andrew Scheer’s Leadership has continued to fuel my desire to serve with this dedicated team of colleagues from across Canada! I know that they will continue to put the needs of ordinary Canadians first! ( I may even offer some suggestions from time to time ??)

Thanks to the amazing volunteers on my campaigns! Donors, door knockers, sign crew, data entry, and more - each and every one of your made a difference in my ability to serve!

Thank you for the dozens of phone calls, email notes in the past 24 hours - and many constituents who came out of their homes or across the road to thank me for my years of service, as Darlene and I collected my lawn signs yesterday!

My family have supported me all the way on this journey! Betty was at my side right up to the moment of her untimely death on May 4, 2011! I am so grateful for her life and for her constant love and support for almost 40 years of marriage! Darlene’s love, along with her strong support and encouragement following our marriage in July 2013, has been a gift that I could never have imagined! I am blessed beyond anything that I can imagine, another one of the many gifts from God, that I do not deserve, but is a result of His grace! My three children and nine grandchildren have sacrificed a lot for me to serve, as I have missed many events in their lives that I wish I could have attended! Thank you not only for understanding, but also for encouraging me in my service to Canadians!

My brothers and sisters and my extended family have stood with me and supported me through many challenges in life, how can I ever adequately thank them? My many friends, prayer partners along with great neighbours have lightened my load on countless occasions, thank you for the encouraging notes, the phone calls, the prayers!

My ultimate gratitude, however, goes to my best and most loyal friend - Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour! Without Him I am nothing and could do nothing! Every breath I take is a gift from Him. Every blessing I enjoy is a result of His generosity! Yes, today, regardless of disappointment, challenges, uncertainty and more, - I am GRATEFUL!
