There will be a change to the Ontario Hockey League draft next year.
The league announced Thursday it will introduce a lottery process to decide the order of selection for the top four picks.
The four teams that miss the playoffs will all have an equal chance of landing the top pick through the randomized draft lottery. It will be held following the conclusion of the regular season.
"This adjustment was developed in consideration of the expanded unbalanced schedule that is being utilized during the 2021-22 season. The League will re-visit this format in advance of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection." said a statement from the league.
It was approved at the OHL's recent Annual General Meeting of the Board of Governors.
Training camps open next week, with the regular season set to start October 7.
