Region reports 83 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, no new outbreaks

No new deaths reported, hospitalizations remain stable at 33

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 83 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday - along with no new deaths, and no new outbreaks.

The latest update pushed the total case count confirmed since last March up to 13,231.

Hospitalizations remained stable at 33, while 13 patients are receiving treatment in ICU

The active caseload climbed by two to 584, as 62 more cases screened positive for a variant of concern in the region.

Here are some other updates from the region's dashboard:

  • 1,149 cases have screened positive for variants of concern - 40 are the U.K. strain - one is linked to the variant first detected in South Africa - one is linked to the strain first found in Brazil - lineage to the other 1,107 has not been determined yet
  • 12,386 resolved cases (94 per cent)

There are currently 20 active outbreaks in the region:

  • St. Bernadette Catholic School (two cases)
  • Construction 11 (four cases)
  • Trades & Related Services 10 (three cases)
  • Queensmount Public School (two cases)
  • Retail 6 (five cases)
  • Sales/Services (Automobile) 5 (two cases)
  • Doon Village Retirement Home (two staff cases)
  • Congregate Setting 36 (one case)
  • St. Anne Catholic Elementary School (three cases)
  • Trucking 2 (two cases)
  • St. Mary's General Hospital - 4th floor
  • Highland Public School (three cases)
  • General Office Setting 9 (two cases)
  • Congregate Setting 35 (four cases)
  • Food and Beverage Services 14 (three cases)
  • YMCA Brigadoon Child Care (six cases)
  • Trades and Related Services 9 (two cases)
  • Food Processing 8 (three cases)
  • Manufacturing/industrial 31 (seven cases)

Meantime, the province reported 4,250 new cases Sunday.

  • 416,995 total cases
  • 367,691 resolved cases
  • 2,107 people are in hospital - 741 are in intensive care - 506 are on a ventilator
  • 7,716 deaths (18 new)
  • 53,776 tests completed Friday - 13.53 million since January 15, 2020
