No new local COVID-19 cases for the third time this week

More positive news on the COVID-19 front in Waterloo Region.

For the third time this week, the local health department is reporting no new cases of the coronavirus.

It means there were just seven news ones this week, compared to 27 the week of July 20.

There have been a total of 1,385 cases since March.

One more case has also been resolved, meaning that total is now at 1,231.

12 of the 35 active cases are being treated in hospital.

Meantime, no additional local deaths have been linked to the virus in almost two weeks, 95 of the 119 deaths have been tied to an outbreak.

There's no change to the only current outbreak, which is at Columbia Forest long-term care - a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

The region also provided an update on testing numbers Friday - 2,100 more have been done, pushing the total number of tests done past 52,000.

Here's the provincial COVID-19 breakdown for Friday:

  • 39,209 total cases (134 new)
  • 78 people are being treated in hospital
  • 35,074 resolved cases
  • 2,775 (three new)
