John Tavares is officially off the market.
The unrestricted free agent agreed to terms with the Toronto Maple Leafs on a seven-year deal on Sunday, worth $11 million per year.
All eyes have been on Tavares, 27, over the past week as he took meetings with six teams, including the Islanders, before hitting free agency on July 1.
The Sharks, Bruins, Lightning and Stars were the other clubs in the mix for his services.
Tavares tweeted the following statement on Sunday, writing that it’s time to live his childhood dream of suiting up for his hometown team:
